Frequently asked questions
Lucky Rips basics
What is Lucky Rips?
Lucky Rips is a service from Lucky Day TCG LLC for purchasing randomized in-app trading-card pack openings. Each rip reveals a physical card allocated to you. The possible results are ungraded (“raw”) cards and PSA-graded cards in PSA slabs.
How old do I need to be?
You must be at least 18 and have reached the age of legal majority where you live. We may request information to verify age, identity, location, and payment authority.
Does Lucky Rips sell sealed products?
No. Lucky Rips does not sell sealed products or manufacturer-sealed packs. A rip is a randomized in-app opening that reveals either an ungraded card or a PSA-graded slab from the eligible card pool described in the listing.
Can I know which card I will receive?
No specific card is known before a randomized rip is selected and revealed. Review the listing for the eligible card pool, selection method, quantity, and any published odds or value information.
Does every pack have the same chance of every item?
Do not assume that it does. Inventory-dependent odds may change between purchases, and items within a stated value or rarity range may not be equally likely. Any statistics applicable to your purchase are the ones shown when you confirm it.
Can I make money buying Lucky Rips?
No profit or return is guaranteed. A card may be worth less than the purchase price, and estimated market values can change. Buy collectibles for enjoyment and within a planned entertainment budget, not as a source of income.
Cards and values
What does “raw” or “ungraded” mean?
A raw or ungraded card has not been authenticated and assigned a grade by PSA. Ungraded cards may have ordinary manufacturing or handling imperfections consistent with their description. We do not guarantee that an ungraded card will receive any particular PSA grade.
What is a PSA-graded slab?
It is a card authenticated and graded by Professional Sports Authenticator (“PSA”) and sealed in a PSA holder. The Platform will identify the PSA grade. Lucky Rips does not guarantee future regrading results or market value.
How are estimated values calculated?
Estimates may consider recent comparable sales, condition, professional grade, rarity, liquidity, and available market data. They are not appraisals or guaranteed sale prices and may differ from other marketplaces.
What happens after my card is revealed?
The physical card is allocated to you, and you have three choices: sell it to Lucky Rips for 100% of the fair market value (“FMV”) displayed when the sale occurs; request shipment and pay the shipping charge and applicable sales or use tax shown before confirmation; or place it in the Vault for up to three calendar days while you decide whether to sell or ship it.
How does the three-day Vault work?
The three-day period begins when you select Vault, as shown in the Platform. You may request shipment or sell the card to Lucky Rips before the deadline. If you do neither, you authorize Lucky Rips to purchase the card automatically when the period expires for 100% of the FMV displayed at the moment the automatic sale is processed.
Will Lucky Rips remind me before the Vault period ends?
No. Lucky Rips will not send a reminder before the three-day deadline. You are responsible for monitoring the deadline shown in the Platform and completing a shipment request or sale before it expires if you do not want the card sold automatically.
How does Lucky Rips determine FMV?
Lucky Rips determines and displays an FMV for each revealed card. The estimate may consider recent comparable sales, condition, professional grade, rarity, liquidity, and available market data. FMV may change and may differ from values shown by other marketplaces.
What value applies when I sell my card?
The sale price is 100% of the FMV displayed in the Platform for that card at the moment the sale is processed. An earlier displayed value does not lock the price. This same rule applies to an automatic sale after the three-day Vault period.
What if an inventory item is missing or damaged?
Contact support. If an item is lost, materially damaged, or unavailable while in our custody, we will investigate and offer an appropriate remedy, such as an acceptable replacement or monetary compensation based on reasonable evidence of value.
Shipping and refunds
How do I ship my cards?
Use the shipment option shown in your account when available. Before confirming, you will see the supported destination, shipping charge, applicable tax, and estimated fulfillment time. Identity verification may be required.
When will my order ship?
The checkout or shipment request will show the estimated fulfillment time. If no time is stated, federal rules generally require a reasonable basis to expect shipment within 30 days. If a covered order is delayed, we will provide the required choice to accept the delay or cancel for a prompt refund. See the FTC’s order-merchandise rule.
Are completed rips refundable?
Completed openings and revealed randomized purchases are generally final. Dissatisfaction with value, rarity, grade, or a valid randomized result is not a refund basis. This does not remove remedies for an unauthorized or duplicate charge, non-delivery, counterfeit item, material misdescription, or a problem for which Lucky Rips is responsible.
What if my shipment is missing, damaged, or incorrect?
Email support@luckyrips.co promptly with the order number and relevant photographs or packaging information. We will investigate and coordinate any carrier claim. Do not discard packaging until the issue is resolved.
Can I cancel a rip?
Contact support promptly if selection and reveal have not begun. Once a rip has begun or a card has been revealed, it cannot be canceled merely because the card was not the one you hoped for. This does not remove remedies required by law for issues such as an unauthorized or duplicate charge or a material misdescription.
Payments and taxes
Will I be charged sales tax?
Where required, Lucky Rips will calculate and collect sales or use tax based on the transaction and delivery destination. Internet sales of tangible merchandise delivered in California are generally taxable unless an exemption applies, according to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. The final tax amount appears before you confirm the relevant transaction.
Are proceeds from selling a card to Lucky Rips taxable?
They may be. For U.S. federal tax purposes, a gain from selling a personal item is generally taxable, while a loss on the sale of a personal-use item generally is not deductible. Your facts may be different if you operate a business, treat cards as investments, or sell frequently. Keep purchase and sale records and consult a qualified tax professional. See the IRS guidance on personal-item sales.
Will I receive a Form 1099-K or another tax form?
Lucky Rips or a payment provider may request taxpayer information and issue an information return when required. Under current federal guidance, a third-party settlement organization generally must issue Form 1099-K when payments exceed $20,000 and 200 transactions, while payment-card transactions can be reportable without that threshold. State rules may differ. A form may also be issued below a threshold. See the current IRS Form 1099-K FAQs.
If I do not receive a tax form, do I still need to report income?
Possibly. The IRS states that taxable income must be reported even if no Form 1099-K is issued. Whether a transaction produces taxable income depends on your circumstances, basis, and applicable law.
What records should I keep?
Keep order confirmations, the amount paid, taxes and fees, shipment records, proceeds from cards sold to Lucky Rips, payment statements, and documents supporting each card’s cost basis. Save any tax form you receive. Lucky Rips does not provide individual tax advice.
Why might Lucky Rips ask for a Form W-9?
We or a payment provider may need your taxpayer identification information to complete legally required reporting or process certain payouts. Provide it only through the secure method identified by Lucky Rips or the payment provider, not through an unsolicited message.
Can I withdraw money I deposited?
Purchased store credit is for eligible Platform purchases and is not cash-withdrawable except where disclosed or required by law. If Lucky Rips offers withdrawable proceeds, such as eligible proceeds from selling a card to Lucky Rips, your account will identify them separately and show available payout methods, fees, minimums, limits, and verification requirements.
Accounts and support
Why might Lucky Rips verify my identity?
Verification may be necessary to confirm age, location, payment authority, eligibility, shipment ownership, fraud prevention, or tax information. Any biometric verification requiring consent will have a separate notice and consent flow.
Can I set a spending limit or take a break?
Yes. Email support to request an available purchase limit, cooling-off period, promotional opt-out, or self-exclusion. Read the Responsible Purchasing Policy for how each control works.
What happens to my cards if my account is closed?
Account closure does not automatically transfer customer-owned inventory to Lucky Rips. Subject to legal restrictions and reasonable verification, we will provide a process to resolve amounts owed and arrange fulfillment or return of inventory. Unclaimed property is handled under applicable law.
